Poland was founded over 1,000 years ago.
It became a strong kingdom and later joined with Lithuania to form one of Europe’s largest countries. In the late 1700s, Poland was divided by Russia, Prussia, and Austria and disappeared from the map for over 100 years.
In 1918, Poland became a country again. But during World War II, it was invaded by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. After the war, Poland became a communist country. In 1989, it peacefully changed to a democracy.
